3. Russian State Bank Gold Shipment — Latest Research (May 26, 2025)
This report incorporates major new findings, including analysis of a previously unexplained 1.5% 30-day $3,000,000 loan (see p. 33), and evidence of additional French banking syndicate gold purchases in New York up to January 22, 1909—the day of RMS Republic’s departure.
These findings suggest that, in addition to the multi-billion-dollar cargoes previously identified, the total onboard value may be substantially higher.

SOLVED: THE MYSTERIOUS 30-DAY LOAN — A Foreign Exchange Transaction Reconstructed (Second Edition, July 19, 2026)
This analytical companion to the R.M.S. Republic Cargo: Russian State Bank Shipment reconstructs the mysterious $3,000,000 New York bridge loan reported in January 1909 and traces its repayment through documented disbursements of the Imperial Russian Ministry of Finance on February 22, 1909. Drawing upon newly identified archival evidence, contemporary financial reports, and the 97-Cent Analysis, the paper demonstrates that the loan was repaid to within five francs (approximately US$0.97) of the documented 15,500,000-franc transfers. Together, these independent lines of evidence provide the first complete reconstruction of this international bridge-financing transaction and document the financial mechanism underlying the Russian State Bank shipment.
